South Africa’s first mono-cast archery butt

EC BUTT, The Archers Target was designed and manufactured by EC Engineering Group.

Where did it start?

Everd Vermeulen has been involved with archery for the last 25 years, from an archer to a field designer and builder for National and World events and all in between. His experience has led him to many different butt designs of which the most generally used one, the multi-layered sponge “skins” compressed together to form the butt together with its degradation defect and the reconditioning of the butt.

This led to the idea of vertical layers of foam with varying densities and thicknesses to find a combination with the best arrow-stopping power and an acceptable pull-out resistance. Good results were achieved but not without the glue damage or stickiness of the Archer’s valuable arrows.

Where are we today

The EC BUTT was successfully used at the Nationals tournament held at Marks Park this year where over 38% of the shooting lanes used the EC BUTT and Timber stand.

The Archers had many favourable comments with the ease of pulling the arrows having the most accolades and the ease of moving the targets due to the lite-weight of the butt and stand. We are very pleased to have shared the EC Butt with others at the Nationals.

  • SANAA Recurve and Barebow Butt – 130 x 130 x 15cm thick HD200 complete with 32cm Dia. and 20cm thick HD230 center insert.
  • SANIFA Butt 1 – 100 x100 x15cm thick HD200 complete with one 32cm Dia. and 20cm thick HD230 center insert. 
  • Hunters Butt 50 x 50cm x 20cm thick HD230 complete with 20cm Dia. and 20cm thick HD230 center insert.

The positioning of the inserts within the Butt can be rearranged for specific purposes.
